Chengde Steel Pipe Once Again Boosts China's High-Efficiency, Low-Carbon Development in Thermal Power

On August 15, 2023, Mr. Zhang Huaide, Chairman of Yangzhou Chengde Steel Pipe Co., Ltd., and Mr. Shi Wei, Deputy General Manager of Baowu Special Metallurgy Co., Ltd., signed a cooperation framework agreement for the development of G115 large-diameter pipes at the Honglou Conference Hall of Jiangsu Chengde Steel Pipe Group.
After ten years of dedicated research and development, Chengde Steel Pipe has successfully trial-produced large-diameter thick-walled G115 martensitic heat-resistant steel pipes (used for 630°C high-efficiency ultra-supercritical units) using a globally unique process. The product has obtained a special equipment type test certificate. The trial-produced product covers a full range of specifications, featuring uniform microstructure, minimal differences in longitudinal and transverse mechanical properties, stable quality, high yield rate, and significant economic benefits. It has passed various tests, including physical and chemical performance, non-destructive testing, dimensional accuracy, and welding process evaluation, meeting the requirements of the T/CSTM 00017-2021 standard. It is suitable for key components such as main steam pipes, reheat steam pipes, and high-temperature headers in 600°C–630°C high-efficiency ultra-supercritical thermal power units. As the only engineering material selected for the boiler headers and main steam pipes of the world's first 630°C national power demonstration project, the manufacturing technology, process, and commercial terms for rolling large-diameter thick-walled pipes have been reviewed and agreed upon by Baowu Special Metallurgy.
Exploration knows no bounds. Following the January 2015 achievement of Yangzhou Chengde Steel Pipe Co., Ltd. (for the innovative development and application of 600°C ultra-supercritical thermal power unit pipes, the world's most advanced commercial coal-fired power generation technology at the time) winning the first prize of the 2014 National Science and Technology Progress Award, Chengde is once again participating in the development of the world's highest-parameter, highest-efficiency, and lowest-energy-consumption thermal power unit (the Datang Yuncheng 630°C ultra-supercritical double-reheat national power demonstration project). As the first engineering application of the domestically developed high-temperature material G115, this project fills the technical gap in China's high-temperature material R&D field, elevating China to a world-leading position in this area for the first time. It breaks the long-standing reliance on imported high-temperature heat-resistant materials, marking a milestone in the high-quality development of China's equipment manufacturing industry and the localization of power equipment. By integrating multiple key technologies, the project has achieved world-leading performance in four major design indicators: temperature, pressure, efficiency, and coal consumption. Notably, the power generation thermal efficiency has surpassed 50% for the first time in the industry, further reducing pollutant emissions and truly realizing clean and efficient coal power development. The successful demonstration of this project will not only consolidate China's leading position in the coal power sector but also lay a solid foundation for the next breakthrough in reheat temperature beyond 700°C.
The company will closely coordinate the extension of the upstream and downstream industrial chains, leveraging multiple R&D platforms in collaboration with research institutions and universities, as well as its proven track record in manufacturing large-diameter thick-walled 9Cr heat-resistant steel seamless pipes for thermal power. It will further deepen experimental research on the product, process, and usage to continuously improve and stabilize product quality, thereby making greater contributions to China's thermal power industry.
